Rose van den Hurk

My name is Rose van den Hurk (1968) and I live and work in Nijmegen, Holland.

In Nijmegen I studied at The Hogeschool Nijmegen, teacher training crafts and textile work. After this, I studied Creative Therapy, and Visual Forms at the University of Nijmegen, and attended an Art Academy in Belgium.

The curves of a woman's body, a child, birth, and nature in her wonderful growth are an inexhaustible source of inspiration for me.

My bronze statues are varied in size. They're either going upwards in height, thin but strong and proud with a powerful, wavy graceful movement or towards the ground, heavy/big, full, round and stilled.

Two other areas I focus on besides my autonomous work are: making birth and child sculptures and making grave monuments. A sculpture as a symbol for life and for death, a sculpture becomes a tangible place for touch and remember.
